The vast wonders of the world are compressing themselves into our TVs, smart phones and computers, beckoning us with ideas that were once too far out to be anything but science fiction.
Tonight we hop onto a plane and tommorrow we are in another continent. Deserts become tropical forests and scorching summers become snow capped mountains in a matter of a few hours. Another culture, another people, another life.
In the exciting rush of travelling a million miles in an eye-blink, are we not forgetting the art of mapping the milestones within us? As the world becomes smaller and people are reaching out furthur we are slowly, silently forgetting how to reach within.
A good old fashioned soul searching never needed more than a rocking chair on a dark, starry night.Only film stars and celebrities came with their entourages of make-up artists, hairdressers and fashion designers.
Today, every ‘Manager’ comes with an NLP practitioner, a personal trainer, a tetha healer and some yoga and shiatsu advisors thrown in for good measure.
Mirrors are being replaced by glass windows with tempting displays. As the access to strangers grows, so does the estrangement with self.
Who am I? – is no longer a question being asked to me or a question I ask myself. It is being asked to my passport, my business card, my facebook page, my golf club membership – even the logo I proudly display on my shirt pocket!
And I enthusiastically accept the answers.
Who am I? Sans popular perception? Beneath the layers of societal conditioning? Without the redundant expectations of my upbringing?
And if I cant google that, will I ever know?
